Exhibition Text
“False Alarm” was Inspired by the art movement of Expressionism. I created 2 colored pencil drawings in my own style which depict a deep meaning of my personal experience as well as many others common anxiety symptoms. The message I convey is how sometimes our thoughts deceive us into thinking what is not reality. My artwork is not specifically inspired by any one piece, but by all Expressionism artworks, a few of them mainly being "The Sick Child" by Edvard Munch and Anna Miklashevich's "APRIL".
Critical Investigation
My inspiration for “False Alarm” stems from the art movement of Expressionsim as well as "The Sick Child" by Edvard Munch and “APRIL” by Anna Miklashevich's. “The Sick Child” by Edvard Munch is an oil painting which was made in memory to Munch’s younger sister who passed away. Munch used bright colors to show the impact such a traumatic memory had on him. “APRIL” by Anna Miklashevich is a portrait of an African American woman, painted with a variety of brushes and paints, there is a diverse use of technique and color and in this piece. I was mostly inspired by the appearance of this artwork, rather than the meaning, which I did not find much information about. I assume Miklashevich is an African American advocate for women based on her other work. I included parts of both of these pieces into my work by including a number of different, vibrant colors as well as having a deep meaning and colors which represent or go along with the mood of the meaning. For example, my anxious thoughts in the first drawing is represented in dark colors such as black and the second piece is the reality of anxiety which is drawn in with bright colorful pencils to show contrast as well as communicate deeper meaning.

"False Alarm" was inspired by the art movement of Expressionism, using expression in art, showing it by use of color and physical facial expressions or actions of the character depicted. I created 2 colored pencil drawings which in one piece shows a girl hiding, afraid, being in the spotlight while people, which in her head she does not know what they are but a pair of eyes, watch her. You can tell she is in the state of fear by her position and facial expression as well as common sense with the surroundings and settings of the piece. The second piece shows the same girl, this time with all the lights on, showing her full face, feeling comfortable and smiling while receiving hearts/love by her friends who support her. I was inspired by the overall meaning and message of Munch's piece which is about a tragedy that is close to his heart and he uses bright colors to represent the intensity of the event. I was reminded of my own tragedies and how anxiety has a big role in my life and I have to deal with it and struggle every day. I decided to base my piece on that subject of anxiety as well as use colors to show the mood of the pieces. Miklashevich is incorporated in my piece with her use of various colors and blending abilities which I tried to copy in my work. I did not find much about the meaning of this piece, although I was mostly inspired by the appearance anyway.

I was inspired by the work above to create my two drawings about the negative outcomes of an anxiety disorder and using color contrast to communicate my message.
Ideas & IntentionsMy intention for this piece was to create 2 separate art pieces that depict my own struggle with social anxiety disorder. I wanted to show a girl who is afraid in the dark with all eyes on her and she does not know who they are or what they want, showing a somewhat exaggerated feeling of being anxious and thinking everyone is judging you. In the second drawing, the

Process/Experimentation
I began my project by tracing a canvas board along a large piece of paper. I then began my planning sketches as I knew already that I wanted to create a piece about my social anxiety disorder. I began my planing sketches and refined them to create my final sketch. Once I had my final sketch, I traced the outline onto my large paper and began to color it using colored pencils.
Reflection/Critique
I am not so proud of this piece as it is clear to see that I did not blend the colors correctly as I found it very difficult using colored pencils as opposed to paint. I think for a future project like this, I would take the advice I got to improve my work. For example,
